Why does Windows Live Messenger keep signing out?

My friend has been having problems with Windows Live Messenger as every so often it keeps signing her out. Until now, I have had no problems other than Messenger freezes for a few minutes when I sign in. Just now, the same problem is happening to my messenger as hers, it keeps singing me out for no reason. How could a thing like this just randomly happen?

I don't have that problem at all. I run Windows XP SP2 on a Dell desktop.You might have an older system or computer or something. Those are the people who usually experience problems. I suggest you upgrade your system, or redo WLM again. It has to work somehow.

Unfortunately, sometimes, Windows sucks.

Are you using a different browser other than IE?

If not, empty all of your unneccessary files, (Temp, History, ect) and restart.

If that doesn't work, download it again and see if that fixes the problem.
Trust me I'm having that same annoying problem as well, I even tried reinstalling and still does that :(

I'm not able to install any of the programs when using Windows Live Installer, just keeps saying 'Sorry, we couldn't install these programs', and I've done what Windows Live Help said to do with the 'Connectivity problems' when I've clicked on 'Get help with this' but it didn't do anything. You have to go into your add and remove and uninstall it completely. Doesn't sound as if you got it all out. Windows detects some of it. Uninstall then do a clean install.

you have to find a different link to the same site
Look in add/remove programmes and make sure it isnt still there, if it is then remove it.

If you did fully delete it then your having problems because the registry entries are still on the hard drive, windows believes its still installed so wont let you put it on again. I recommend you DONT mess with the registry itself but rather download one of the free registry cleaners available on the net. I paid for mine it was 锟?5 and its excellent, mine also cleans up other windows problems too.

Hi i have been trying to delet windows live messenger and download msn 7.5 because that was good but u cannot delete windows live messenger; i've tried control pannel, add or remove programs and then removing it but it jus doesn't go! So when i try and download msn 7.5 it says you have a newer version so it cannot install. I also like the add on where you can change your name to colours and set a personal status E.G. {Having tea and be back at 6:30} ...whats this called and how do i get this? best answer will be awarded!

I would uninstall it and go back to the previous version of msn messenger, that works just fine for me.

Is it the same thing or is it different? Because I have Windows Live Messenger, and I want to get this thing called Adium for my Mac (its like Pidgin but only for Macs) and it works with AIM, Yahoo!, ICQ, GTalk, MSN and a bizzilon other things, but it doesnt say Windows Live.

Yes, MSN and WLM (Windows Live Messenger) are essentially the same things.

Their based on the same service, but Microsoft is dumping the old buggy MSN Messenger, with the new WLM.

Personally, I love WLM the most out of all my IM clients. It's speedy and does tons of functions.

People are slow to refer to the new MSN, as WLM, hence the confusion. So just call it WLM from now on.

Can't sign into Windows Live Messenger?

Hi,

I have Windows Live Messenger 8.1. For two days I have been having troubles signing into msn messenger. It's an on and off thing. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

It keeps giving me error 80048820. I searched this online and read number of articles about this.

I have to say,

1.) My date and time are correct.

2.) I do not have a proxy wall.

3.) MSN messenger server says it's up and running

4.) I did register regsvr32 softpub.dll and all those other dlls they give you still didn't work

5.) When I can't sign into msn, I can't sign into hotmail either.

6.) I downloaded the latest MSN messenger, still didn't work

7.) I disabled the firewall still didn't work.

Those are the solutions they give you at any of the help sites.

I have to keep myself signed in 24/7 which is a pain in the ***. So, please someone help me :(

Its not just you. Theres probably some problems with the hotmail/windows live server..

If you have a router, try opening the ports.
It is on there end, so just hang in there and they will fix it. They are having trouble with the upgrade. Hope this helps.

I use MSN Messenger at work. I use one main window to converse with a group of co-workers. But when they send messages to me only, it appears in a separate window. Is there a way that I can use just *one* window for *all* my conversations?

Ideally, if an individual messages me exclusively, it would show up alongside other messages as a "private message" or something like that.

Is this possible with either in "MSN Messenger" or the new "Windows Live Messenger" that came out last month? If not is there a prgram that would let me modify Messenger to allow something like this?

In Trillian i just right click a message and choose to dock, or even to drag and drop it, then they're in one tabbed window...

Very smooth and easy to use.... All my MSN Messenger goes through trillian now.
