They are right - right click and delete. But perhaps you mean the whole program? The shortcut won't come back unless you put it back so am wondering if you want to go to Control Panel, Add/Remove programs and delete it there - that's going to get rid of all of it.

Have you tried right clicking the icon and selecting Delete. As it's only a shortcut, it won't uninstall the program.
right hit on the messenger shortcut hit delete you dont have to delete anything more
