Is MSN Messenger the same as Windows Live Messenger?

I've been trying to install MSN Messenger but Windows Live Messenger always pops out. I'm confused!

yeah they are the same, they just like changing things once in a while. i was a bit confused as well when i first saw that i had windows live instead of msn on my desktop hahahaha
