How can I turn off Windows Live messenger temporarily?

I don't use Windows Live Messenger very much. I would like to turn it off for most of the time, so that it is not using up memory on my PC.

But I have no idea how to turn it off without uninstalling it. Can anyone help?

Go to Start then Run. Now type in 'msconfig' without the quotes. Open the Startup Tab. Scroll down the list and untick anything relating to Messenger. Now click apply, click ok. Re-boot your computer. Eventually when your computer boots you will be presented with a new pop-up window - tick do not show again. This method will not un-install but it will prevent it from kicking off until you need it.

Right click the Windows Live Messenger icon sitting in the system tray(next to your clock), and when the sub-menu appears, click Exit.

Also, if you want to disable it from starting up everytime you turn on your computer, open up messenger, double click the very top of the window where it actually says 'Windows Live Messenger' and then it will turn into a proper windowed application, then, starting from the menu, go to TOOLS %26gt; OPTIONS... %26gt; GENERAL and then uncheck the first option which says 'Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log into Windows'.

There is a setting in the live messenger, something like "start with windows automatically" or something like that. uncheck it and the job is done
1) Turn off and restart at every computer startup

just click the icon and exit

2) Turn off always until one starts MSN live messager again

Select start, then run, type msconfig in the dropdown box and click ok. A system configuration utility screen will prop up. Select the "Startup" tab and uncheck msnmsgr then click ok. Click restart at the next prompt. MSN live messager will not start again until one starts MSN live messager manually.
there is two options, the first one is going to disable the startup option, that means is not going to start automatically when windows starts, and i think is the best one, so you can run it whenever you want from the star menu.

After you signed in press the alt key and go to tools, then go all the way down to options and click there, then to the general tab and uncheck " automatically run windows live messenger when i start windows".

the second one go to the task manager ( ctrl+alt+delete) same time andgo to the process tab, select "msnmsgr.exe" and click in terminate process accept and you are all set. I hope this helps.
Actually for you to turn it off and not uninstalling it and its not going to use memory from your pc are

* Press in crtl+alt+del and then there is a small window will show then there are 6 options choose "Task Manager" click it then a small window will open.

* There will be 4 tabs you can see on the small window

1. Application - which you can see the current application you are using. next to it is Processes, Performance and Networking.

* Choose the Processes tab and look for the Windows Live messenger where all application that is currently running even your not using them then when you see the WLM click on it then it will be highlighted then click "End Process" button on the lower right corner of the window.

There is another way to disable the window live messenger during boot and it will not use memory on your pc

type it on run: by clicking the start menu you can see the word run:

C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

then look for windows live messenger! and dissable it!
